“On The Road With Bear In The Big Blue House”
Disney Channel was looking to develop a live promotional tour for their popular program, Bear In the Big Blue House, produced by the Jim Henson Company, and starring a seven-foot-tall gentle and affable Bear and his menagerie of friends.
Tom Lieberman played a key role in adapting this television show into a convincing live theatrical experience, supervising all aspects of script development, voice recording, video shoots, and scenic development. He also served an active role in company management, rehearsals, booking and operations. The initial tour was a huge success that led Henson and Disney to launch many more years of live theatrical touring attractions with VEE.
“Common Denominator”
Common Denominator is the title song of a CD featuring all original compositions by Tom Lieberman, and performed by his band, Tommy & The Liebermen. The song celebrates empathy, cooperation & compromise, and their critical role in healing a broken world. Minneapolis StarTribune reviewers placed the recording on their annual “Top 10” list, and described it as, “bluesy, simmering, profoundly philosophical,” “gentle, playful, romantic and infectious,” and “a charming, eclectic album of original songs.”
“We Knew Who We Were”
Once upon a time, much like today, the North Side Neighborhood of Minneapolis, Minnesota, was home to vibrant community of first generation immigrants and their families, all in search of the American Dream. The story of the North Side Jewish community in the early 20th Century is not so different from the story of the Russian, Somali, Latino and Asian communities that are taking root there today in the early 21st Century. This is a portrait of a much-loved dynamic and close-knit community, working hard to assimilate, while preserving a collective Jewish identity in a city once termed, “The Capital of of Anti-Semitism in the United States.”
“Spinning Yarns”
Thread Connected Content connects ideas, people and brands. But what are the connections that tell the Thread story? The Thread team invited Tom Lieberman to participate in their Artists in Residence series, to create a piece of art that reflects on the people and stories of Thread, itself. Tom led the company in a group identity activity that included a discussion of specific objects of significance from each participant. The objects and stories were then distilled into an original song about the power of things and how we define ourselves through the stories they carry.
